Wis. woman arrested, booked over library fines

GRAFTON, Wis. - A Grafton woman has been arrested and booked for failing to pay her library fines. Heidi Dalibor, 20, told the News Graphic in Cedarburg she ignored the library's calls and letters as well as a notice to appear in court.

Still, she was surprised when officers with a warrant knocked on her door, cuffed her and took her to the police station to be fingerprinted and photographed.

Police Capt. Joe Gabrish saied officers follow the same procedure with every warrant.

Library director John Hanson said a couple of dozen people are cited each year for failure to return materials or pay fines.

The incident cost Dalibor about $30 for the overdue paperbacks "White Oleander" and "Angels and Demons" and her mother nearly $172 to get her out of custody.

Driving dog has accident at car wash

The owner of a blue Pit Bull was surprised Tuesday afternoon when her dog shifted the car into gear while she was washing it at Spot Free Car Wash in Pryor.

Police Officer Brent Crittenden said the 1982 Buick doesn’t require the brake to be pressed when shifting, which allowed the dog to shift the car into reverse. He said the 70-pound dog jumped on the dash and somehow shifted the car into reverse.

The car backed out of the a car wash bay on the south side of the car wash and continued onto Highway 69. It traveled north in reverse, then looped around and backed into the automated car wash lane.

“This is the first time in 26 years where I get to work a wreck and leave all my driver info blank,” said Crittenden.

He joked about waiting on confirmation of the dog’s driver’s license before writing any tickets.

The animal was licensed with the city of Pryor, so “I didn’t have to take the dog to jail.”

Boy survives being 'recycled' by truck

Police in Milwaukee say a teenage boy has survived after being accidentally dumped into the back of a recycling truck and compacted.

Police say the 14-year-old ran away from a boot camp-style school for teens and hid in a recycling bin filled with cardboard.

The bin was picked up by a Waste Management truck and dumped into the vehicle's rear compactor.

You can recycle these. You cannot recycle boys

Waste Management spokeswoman Lynn Morgan says the truck continued on its collection route, compacting cardboard several times.

The boy was not discovered until the truck dumped its load at a recycling processing centre.

He was semi-conscious and was taken to a hospital, but police say his injuries are not life-threatening.

Arizona jogger keeps running with rabid fox attached

WHEN a woman out jogging was bitten by a rabid fox, she ran on for another 1.5km with the animal still attached to her arm and threw it into the boot of her car.

The woman was bitten on the foot by the fox while she out running near Prescott in Arizona, the Associated Press reported.

When it went for her leg, she grabbed it by the scruff of the neck, and that's when it bit her arm, the Yavapai County sheriff's office said.

The woman wanted the animal tested for rabies so she ran 1.5km to her car with the fox still biting her arm, then pried it off, threw it in the boot of her car and drove herself to hospital.

The fox later bit an animal control officer. He and the woman both received rabies vaccinations.

Man claims attack by priest, two nuns

RUTINO, Italy, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- A Rutino, Italy, restaurateur claims he was brutally beaten by a priest and two nuns after a dispute about the lease on the property.

The alleged victim, identified as A.E., 49, said he rushed into his establishment after hearing the three clergy were trashing the restaurant and during the ensuing confrontation the priest struck him with a chair and the two nuns -- who their lawyers said have "a combined age of 160" -- kicked him in the stomach, ANSA reported Monday.

"I came down to try to calm things down but the priest hit me with a chair and I ended up on the floor. Then the two sisters started kicking me, insulting me with unrepeatable words," the restaurant owner said.

Lawyers for the accused denied the assault and said the restaurateur was embroiled in a dispute with the local convent of the Disciples of Saint Teresa, which owns the building.

"That establishment was occupied illegally," a lawyer for the accused said.
